"The Greatest Thing in the World" is an eye-opening meditation on the great love chapter of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13. Written by Henry Drummond, this timeless classic has been in publication since it was first published over a hundred years ago. Above all, "The Greatest Thing in the World" is a discourse on love-what it consists of, and how to acquire and keep it. This book has opened the eyes of many readers to a wonderful truth-that love is enough. Drummond makes the point that if you have love - if you can feel and express love - you have it all. Drummond teachers us to focus on how much God loves us and those around us, and that simple truth, when understood, has profoundly affected many lives. In "The Greatest Thing in the World," readers will learn that being a Christian is not just about doing good deeds, but practicing love until it comes natural. In order to know God you must truly feel love flowing through you as a force so powerful you can't help but be profoundly moved. Truly a masterpiece, "The Greatest Thing in the World" is one of the most powerful and beautiful books ever written. Jesus' teachings were not complex. By following the simple rules in this book, you can learn to love God and others as you never have before, and by so doing, transform your life. In addition to "The Greatest Thing in the World," this volume also includes " Lessons From the Angelus," Pax Vobiscum," "First! An Address to Boys," "The Changed Life, The Greatest Need in the World," and "Dealing With Doubt."

CAUTION: This is NOT the original sermon delivered by Henry Drummond. Down in the "Read more" part of the product description, it says, "This a reproduction of a historical artifact, this work may contain missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc." There ARE missing and blurred pages, etc. I feel the product description should have put this information up front instead of hidden in the "Read more" section. It actually looks as though someone cut the pages with a pair of scissors and pieced them together. The pages aren't square to the binding/cover like a normal book. This was purchased as a gift but I would be embarrassed to give it to anyone. VERY disappointed in this purchase and plan to return the book.Product details

Henry Drummond The Greatest Thing in the World and Other Addresses Henry Drummond 9781449984779 Books Reviews
The supreme thing, in short, is not a thing at all, but the giving of a further finish to the multitudinous words and acts which make up the sum of every common day. For there is no debtor in the world so honorable, so superbly honorable, as Love. "Love never faileth." Love is success, Love is happiness, Love is life.

As Jesus, Paul, and other disciples tell us, love is more powerful and precious than any other aspect of Christian life. Drummond does a masterful job of discussing this. I’m not usually that enthralled with non-fiction books, but I could hardly put his one down. For me, it was definitely a page-turner and one everyone should read.
I had no idea it would move me as much as it did. I've read the 13th chapter of 1st Corinthians many times and love it. In fact, my wedding ring has the inscription of 1st Corinthians 1313 inside it so as to remind me how love and marriage are intertwined. In reading this slim book, however, I was shown an even deeper understanding of the importance of love in everything and the necessity of not limiting it to just the familiar. We all deserve love. More importantly, we all need to show love. Read this book. Keep it on a shelf close to your bed as I do and read it just before falling asleep. It gives me good dreams. I hope it does the same for you.
In *The Greatest Thing in the World* Henry Drummond, a liberal Christian minister of the late 1800's, gives us a powerful essay on Paul's chapter on love, found in I Corinthians 13. The short essay is broken into three parts The Contrast; The Analysis; and The Defense. The book is very short - it can probably be read in 20 minutes - but it's a 20 minutes that could change your life, and your outlook on Jesus's admonition that we love one another. I never fail to feel uplifted and inspired by Drummond's sermon on love. I recommend this book for all who are seeking to be better expressions of Love.

As a nineteenth century evangelist and writer, Mr. Drummond explores 1 Corinthians 13 as a deep thinker. I found myself re-reading and highlighting major portions of the book as his profound interpretations and applications were surprisingly relevant for believers today. He thoroughly examines the scripture and concludes rightly that "the greatest of these is love." Not a long book, but good for a devotional or deep study on love. Lots of light bulb moments for me.
I received a collection of Henry Drummond's sermons when I graduated from High School fifty four years ago and they have had a major impact on my life. If you give this as a graduation gift, encourage the recipient to read more than "The Greatest Thing (gift) in the World". Love is undeniably the greatest gift, but some of his other sermons are equally important and are likely to be even more relevant at different times in one's life.
The book's small but the message is huge. The topic is love. Drummond explains the wonderful chapter about love found in 1 Corinthians 13. . All one needs to know about love is found in these words, words so moving that the passage is often read during wedding ceremonies. Our pastor mentioned the book during a sermon and I made note and ordered it from . Surprisingly, I later found a copy of the book in my own library, it had been a gift to a relative, given in 1929. The book from is a small paperback, mine is in a beautiful leather tooled cover with lettering in gold. The words are the same. and the message is the same.
